Liberty Drive to China Motor Insurance
To foster the integration of the Greater Bay Area and provide ease to business travelers and tourists from Hong Kong and China, the Hong Kong and Chinese governments are launching “Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" (the scheme). Under this scheme, private car drivers from Hong Kong are no longer required to obtain regular quotas for their entry to Guangdong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, provided that they are covered by valid statutory motor insurance of China. Eligible entrants into China under the scheme are allowed to stay in PRC for up to 30 days for each visit and up to 180 days within one year.
Having collaborated closely with the insurance regulatory bodies from Hong Kong and Guangdong government, Liberty Insurance is honored to become one of the first insurers in Hong Kong to provide statutory insurance for the scheme. All existing individual motor insurance policyholders insured by Liberty# are eligible to apply for the Liberty Drive to China Motor Insurance.
#Please Note: Due to applicable regulations and rules, only individual motor insurance policyholders insured by Liberty are eligible for application to the Liberty Drive to China Motor Insurance. Corporate motor insurance policyholders are not eligible.

- Steps for applying for the Electronic Vehicle License in Hong Kong:

- Prepare the required documents and submit the application to the Hong Kong Transport Department.
- Register for the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicle" information system.
- Have the vehicle inspected and purchase insurance in Hong Kong.
- Register with the Mainland China Customs and Border Inspection Department.

- Applicants must hold a valid Hong Kong Identity Card and Mainland Travel Permit (commonly called the “Home Return Permit”)
- Applicants must have private car driving licenses from both Hong Kong and the Mainland
- The applicant must be the registered owner of the relevant private vehicle
- The vehicle must be a private vehicle not for commercial purposes
- The vehicle must have 8 seats (including the driver’s seat) or fewer, and the length of the vehicle must not exceed 6 meters
- The vehicle must have the relevant vehicle licenses of the two places (including the Closed Road Permit for Cross-Boundary Vehicles and the vehicle licenses)
- The insurance requirements of both places must be met, including those relating to Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicle of the Mainland

Liberty Drive To China Motor Insurance comprises "Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicle" and "Commercial Third Party Liability Insurance)", and covers third party injury or property damage liability caused by accident in the Guangdong Province for which the insured and/or he or her authorized legal driver(s) are held liable for.
This Drive to China product is only applicable to Hong Kong motor vehicles entering and traveling within the territory of Guangdong Province, Mainland China via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
Existing individual policyholders at Liberty Hong Kong can purchase Liberty Drive To China Motor Insurance, and will not be required to purchase separate Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicle and Commercial Third Party Liability Insurance from insurers based in PRC.

"Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicle" is a compulsory vehicle insurance coverage required by PRC for all vehicles in China. It covers third parties' (excluding the insured and passenger in the vehicle) injuries/death and property losses resulting from a car accident within liability limit stipulated by PRC regulation.
- What is “Commercial Third Party Liability Insurance”?

“Commercial Third Party Liability Insurance" is a non-mandatory liability insurance which provides supplementary third-party liability coverage exceeding liability limits stipulated under Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicle, up to the liability limit level chosen by the insureds. Insureds can select various liability limit levels for Commercial Third Party Liability based on their needs.

Only current individual motor insurance policyholders insured by Liberty International Insurance Limited (Hong Kong) are eligible for the Liberty Drive to China Motor Insurance.
Effective period of the Drive to China motor policy must be within the existing Hong Kong motor policy's effective period
(Note: 30-day policy and full-year 365-day policy are available)According to the Quota-free Scheme for Hong Kong Private Cars Travelling to Guangdong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge ("the Scheme"), each applicant may designate no more than two drivers to drive the private car concerned between Hong Kong and Guangdong. When purchasing the Liberty Drive to China Motor Insurance, please ensure that the designated drivers on your application to the Scheme are included as Named Drivers in your existing motor insurance policy with Liberty International Insurance Limited.
